Girls Are Pretty Damn Catty ;)

Meow, it's Halloween time! Being the broke college student I am, it's necessary for me to find a clever yet cheap costume. So what did I come with? CAT! Check out this pic of just some very very rough cat practice makeup! Actual Halloween picks to come!

Let's Talk Freshman 15

First off what is the Freshman fifteen? Well, it is a theory that all freshman that go to a university gain 15 pound their first year. Next question, why am I talking about it. The reason I am talking about it is because I have now been at Eastern Washington University for about a month and I see very clearly why there is this theory. I am also talking about it because it has been interfering with my daily-diet.  But I have also found ways around it.

So let's talk how you gain it. First thing I noticed is that everything I once ate back at home was not offered to me here. Not with my meal plan anyway. In order for me to eat healthy like I did at home I would be having to spend my hard earned cash on food. But why do that when I paid around a grand for food a quarter? The main reason for the freshman fifteen would be the food options. Everything here is food I would not even dare to look at. Burgers and fries, fried up pastas, giant sized burritos, sugar filled espresso drinks, and greasy breakfast sandwiches as far as the eye can see! Only healthy options I could see was plain lettuce and fruit. Yes fruit and lettuce are great, but you can't healthfully live by only eating them. Another reason for gaining the freshman fifteen would be vamping out and being lazy. It's not hard to be a total couch potato in college. Your dorm room isn't very big and if you wanted to you could lay there all day. You have no chores to do so why not. Either you sit in your room or take the elevator to your friends room to sit.

Now, how to avoid these problems. Let's tackle the first one, the problem of unhealthy food. Yes it is easy to fall into these temptations seeing as they are the only visible options. To eat healthy and use your meal plan it's going to take effort on your part. Most people, when trying to stay healthy, go for the salad. Only problem is that when ordering a salad it usually comes with a monstrous amount of fatty dressings. How to solve this problem, make a little side note on your order slip to leave the dressing off. You might be thinking ewww plain salad. Trust me if you ordered a bbq chicken salad, the chicken and all the other toppings such as peppers, black beans, corn, and tomatoes are going to be just as flavorful. You won't even know what you are missing. Also look for any signs that say "Gluten-free bread/pasta available upon request." Sometimes the healthy options aren't available in plain view.

Wheat-Free Living

Hey guys! So as we all no now I have been aiming for a more healthy life style. I have been eating a lot better and getting daily exercise in. However I just recently found some interesting information. This information is all about the secret harmful effects wheat food can cause on the body. It's not all about weight. Wheat has many other harmful effects to the body. So for this reason I have now officially cut wheat out of my diet!

I know this sounds crazy. Trust me I'm still upset about it. Everyone knows about how much I loved my whole wheat sandwiches and whole wheat and fruit toast in the morning. But this doesn't mean that I can't have all that. There are tons of product out there that are made wheat-free for those who have allergies to wheat. You can easily replace wheat products with those products. You can also look for recipes that will help you make it yourself.

If you guys would like to see 10 reasons to stop eating wheat watch the video down below made by Brenda Lee Turner. She has many more healthy-living videos that help you understand why things are bad for you and why they are good for you. Check out her youtube channel and website! I get a lot of inspiration and good quality information from her.

20 Days and Counting Down.

Only 20 days left now. A long time ago I posted about being accepted into Eastern Washington University. Well the time to actually go is just about here. The kids going back to high school start in three days. I've got twenty left. I'm at the point where I just want the day to already be here. I almost feel like I'm just bopping around with nothing to do.

So far my room has been looking more like a storage unit. I'm half way packed already too. I have bought so many things for school it's really hard to believe. I'm still in the shopping process too. I think I might need to hurry the hell up because twenty days can go real fast.

The hardest part about all this is actually saying good bye. I'm thinking of it as if I will never see the people I say good bye to again. The stupid part is, I'm coming back for holidays so I don't know why I'm acting this way about it. However, with that being said, there are a few people here that I want to say good bye to, and really mean good bye. I don't hate these people, don't get it wrong. If I hated them there would be no good bye. When the day comes for me to say farewell I am most definitely going to cry. Hopefully not though.

But yeah I am excited and I can't wait. Wish me luck!

So with that said get ready for the new healthy meal section of my blog. I decided that instead of bombarding my home page with 100 different healthy recipes, I would just devote one entire page on the blog to them. So get ready for them!

Healthy Eating

Energy packed breakfast. Delicious too!

As promised I am updating my blog with some yummy and healthy meal plans that are quick to make. I said every Sunday I would update my blog with meal and exercise plans. Today I am just going to be posting what I ate and the quick recipes for them. All of these kept me full and energized. So let's get into it.

Breakfast:

For breakfast I like to have a more filling meal that will keep me full for most of the early hours of the day. I also like to start it off with grains and protein. What I ate today was:

  • 2 scrambled egg whites with one slice of turkey on one whole wheat toast.
  • 4 pineapple chunks with 1/4 cup of low-fat cottage cheese.
  • 1 serving of light silk vanilla soy milk.
Lunch:
Balsamic Fruity Salad

For lunch today I wanted to go for something light. This will help keep me feeling fresh and energized. Today I chose this Balsamic fruity salad.

* 3 romaine lettuce leaves chopped.
* half a nectarine diced.
* few chunks of pineapple.
* 2 Tbsp balsamic vinaigrette

Dinner:
I like to have a filling dinner so I will stay full until bed time. This prevents me from eating in the later hours of the day which can and most likely will lead to weight gain. I usually like to have protein with grains and I always include vegetables in my dinners.

Toasted Avocado Tomato and Turkey Sandwich

Tonight for dinner I chose to go with a toasted avocado tomato and turkey sandwich. This was definitely filling because of the avocado.
  • 2 slices of toasted whole wheat bread.
  • 2 slices of turkey.
  • 3 slices of tomato.
  • 5 slices of avocado.
  • 1 Tbsp mustard.
My beverage of choice for dinner would also be filling and packed with protein. I usually go for my chocolate and avocado shake. I know you're probably thinking ewww. But it is actually pretty yummy. If you need yours to be more sweet follow the second shake recipe. Both are healthy and packed with protein to keep you full and keep your mind of any midnight snacks.

Chocolate and Avocado Protein Shake

Recipe 1:
  • 1/2 a ripe avocado
  • 1 cup light chocolate silk soy milk
  • 4 ice cubes.
Recipe 2:
  • 1/2 a ripe avocado
  • 1 cup light chocolate silk soy milk
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tsp vanilla extract.
For both recipes add all ingredients into a blender and blend until completely mixed and smooth. Usually until a creamy texture.

Feeling Skinny!

Quick pic after my run (:
It's amazing what just two days of hard work can do to you. I can't see any change but I can definitely feel it. I no longer feel bloated and I can say I feel ten times more satisfied. I know pushing yourself to workout isn't the easiest thing, but once you're done with it you feel so accomplished. Now that I have pushed myself for two long days I can't imagine a day without working out.

So what have I done!

Mornings:

  • Small warm-up work out: 1 mile jog to wake my body up.
  • Eat breakfast.
Afternoons:
  • Two to three mile jog. Getting some cardio.
  • Eat lunch.
Early Evenings:
  • 30 minutes to an hour of muscle training workouts.
  • Eat dinner. (Before 8 o'clock of course)
This is pretty much just the basics of what I have done. Starting on Sunday I plan to jot down what I've eaten and what workouts I do each day and each Sunday I will post my weekly plan. From my menu to my workouts. Anyway thanks for ready and I will see you on the healthy side ;)
